Looking for info/ tutorials on DVD burning

Anyone have links to sites that explain how to burn to dvd-r's?

I got a burner but I have no clue how to use it and what programs are the best to encode/ decompress etc....

its a Toshiba DVD-r/-RW Drive, SD-R5002 with no software... I got it from newegg and it came with nothing... not even cables so I'm kinda lost right now.

I have it installed but not sure what programs to use

NTI CD Maker 6 Platinum seems to work well after I got the Mpeg2 Plugin for it.
