Genome is dead, Seti is ok if you want to find Martians, kinda old though, Folding should see real benefits in our lifetime, hopfully cures for some of our worst diseases.
So my vote goes to Folding and I did some research when I started and Sick Kids in Toronto does benefit from some of the research that Stanford does so its payback for my kids to give a little back

Welcome to the world of folding.
Just so you know some of the things you need.
The FAH3console.exe is faster than the screensaver version because it doesn't have to draw graphics.
If you make a shortcut to the FAH3console.exe you can add some flags to it.
Example: (Assume your folding directory is named 'folding' and on drive C:\) Your command line should look something like this.
C:\folding\FAH3console.exe -forceasm -advmethods
You can also do the same thing with the 'run' command.
If you do have any questions that you'd like answered, please don't be afraid to ask. That's what we are all here for.
Folding with team 15

YiKeS varies on which protein u have.

There are different proteins with different sizes.
Sounds like you have a couple with 400 frames. Should be doing about 1 fram every 3-5 minutes which means that it'll take about 1600 minutes to complete a work unit. Figure on 23 hours and some minutes to complete.
Thats a pretty good clip. And if you add the -advmethods -forceasm flags to your command line the next time you get a work units it should go faster.
Rick
rickoic, what exactly do those arguments do?

The -forceasm forces your computer to use the advanced math functions which gives faster processing.
The -advmethods causes you to download the next generation of work units which give a slightly better point return for a finished work unit. These are work units that have passed an extensive Beta test period but are available to folders who want to make sure they are virtually ready for release to the basic folder. They realize that not all configurations can be Beta tested so they give them out to a broader audiance to test against more configurations. So you may run into problems with them if you have an unusual or rare configuration.
I think the -forceasm gives about a 20% speedup and the -advance methods I don't know, but could be 10-20%.

You will need to talk to your IT person and try and get permission from them to set it up for you.
See you Monday.
