I need help configuring my Nexland isb soho router. Which ports should I close off? Does anyone have a link on this subject to help me out? Thanks.:D
PS: When I use the SG security test it shows my ports as open. But when I go to shields up it says their closed.

By default they should be stealth, I'd recommend upgrading your firmware.

By default, all your ports are closed. Is your computer set in the DMZ? What ports is the scan showing open? I just used my SOHO and ran the scan....all closed up.

All of them but 113 in the SG scan. I have the dips set in the off position, and I'm in port 4.

Is your computer set in the DMZ for some reason?

What has been done to the router, perhaps try resetting the router to defaults and start over, I don't know what's been done to the router.

All of them but 113 in the SG scan.

In one of the tabs (Advanced, I believe) there is an option to mask the IDENT port. That is 113.

You should only use the dips when reseting the router, flashing firmware and such. Doesn't matter which physical port you're plugged into - except the WAN port, of course.

I set it to default, selected the option to mask ident port and applied filters to gopher telnet and confrence than set a password. The only port scan utility they show as open on is the one at SG. Is there anything else that you guys would recomend me to do at this point?
PS DMZ is disabled.

I just tried that SG security test and it said I had NO open ports when infact I do .... whats up with that?

does this thing work correctly? maybe thats why cyPHer_138 isn't getting proper readings too..

I'd stick with shields up & www.auditmypc.com

Well I'm glad to say that after following the router config guide written by YOSC, and Danjrs XP router guide on dslnuts I'm running great. Thanks alot guys. I printed both of your guides for refference.
Let me also add I LOVE this router.:D :D

Cool. I finally retired mine, at home, the SOHO lasted the longest of all the routers I have...longest active duty. Just replaced it with another Netopia I got my hands on. The Nexland did scream...very fast little sucker. The only issue I had with it, was sometimes, when running WinXP, the browser wouldn't display the page. You'd have to empty your temp internet files, then it would be fine. This was an issue after XP sp1, and the latest firmware was supposed to fix that, but it didn't for me. No biggie really.
