I just found out that I have been given a $3,000 budget to buy a notebook computer for my use as President of our IAFF local. I've got to get a printer and a couple of other accessories also, out of that money. Since it will be in my possession, I will most definitely have it folding!

Anyone want to weigh in with their opinion on the PC? Suggestions welcome. I need to order something this week. If you have any experience with AMD vs. Intel in a notebook, please comment. Also if there is a manufacturer you would stay away from, say so, and tell me why. I am looking into buying it through my Fire Dept. (Government Agency), which should qualify it for a discount from vendors like Dell and Gateway.

Only thing I'd advise is to go top of the line, especially on the cpu. Otherwise I'm not that sure that the major makers are that much different.

Good luck and happy folding.

I have a friend who has one of these Notebooks (http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpdirect/shopping/scripts/computer_store/computer_customize_view.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1601951617.1051085871@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccfadcieddeifgcfngcfkmdflldfgg.0&category=notebooks/compaq_presario/2100_series&cat_level=1&browse_link=true) with the Athlon XP-M 2400 in it and it folds better than any other notebook I have seen. Also does everything else very well. I have used it (played :)) on it several times and it would be the one I would buy.
Just my .02 though :)

3 grand can get you a lot of notebook. As said above I'd be looking for the fastest cpu. Notebooks don't usually have that great of an upgrade path so you want something that will hold it's own down the road.
