View Full Version : GAH Classic
Not that it's a big deal anymore, but the .99 or Classic version of GAH is finally going to be canned. May 1st is the last day the server will be sending out new units, and May 5th will be the last day it'll accept returned units. I've got 2 older machines here, a 166mhz Pentium and a 350mhz P2. The 166 I'll probably move over to the GAH2/FAH3 client and set it up to run genome units. Has anyone here run FAH3 on a 350mhz P2 and had it return units on time for credit? If that machine has enough speed I'll move that one over to the Fold, if not I'll just move it over to GAH2 as well.
Thanks
Give the 350 a try for a WU or two, give it a unique name and see if it posts ok, I've got 500 Cels that complete in time and If I remember my old 350PII, it would run circles around a 500 CEL.
Give it a go

Ya there are a few sgers with350-400mhz cpus that fold
i have a p-3 500 folding 24/7, one work unit took 20 days, i think it was one of those 73 pointers.

Not completely sure, but think Stanford sets time limit with a 300MHz Celeron computer. So a 350 should be able to handle it. Also they add a certain percentage of time to the limit so people can actually use the computer if they need to.
So go for it and enhance the team.
Go Team.....:D :D :D
Yeah, I tried a quick experiment with a P2 233MHz. It wasn't exactly fast, however it did complete the work with in the time frame... ;)
Thanks for the replies guys, I actually had folding on this 350mhz machine a while ago, I let it run for the weekend, and on Monday I looked at it and it was only maybe at best 10% done LOL, I was concerned that it wouldn't finish on time so I just switched it over to GAH classic. With them canceling GAH classic and all. I'll give it another shot with FAH and if that doesn't work out I'll move it over to Genome 2.

it may take 1 or 2 wus before u start recieving th ones u can finish on time so give it a few wus of a chance.
Stuff it in the freezer then OC it to, ummmm, maybe 2 gigs, yah, thats it:D

:rotfl: :rotfl: If I could make a 350mhz P2 run at 2ghz I doubt I'd be much concerned about Folding. I'd probably be sitting on a beach somewhere counting my Billions.:)
My Pentium 200 was borderline for Folding. Some WU's it would return on time, some it just missed out on by 4%. So anything a little bit faster than a Pentium 200 should be fine.

I'm folding with an AMD K6-2 350 and it is returning the units on time so far, but it is really slow.
