Here is the error that pop ups everytime:

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2600.0, faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.2600.0, fault address 0x00033dc0.

Any ideas?

This is a brand new system from Dell, P4 2.5 ghz, 512 ddr ram

Has XP Pro SP 1

I cannot figure this out?

Thanks

For one thing, I'd recommend a clean install of XP Pro, even on an OEM computer like a Dell. All kinds of junk is pre-installed on them, and in my experience, causes more problems than it's worth.

Did you install a new printer recently by any chance?

You could try to restore the mscvrt.dll file from the XP CD...

ok i know what the problem is but not sure how to fix it

I installed a secondary vga adaptter to have my dual monitor setup

on my old PC i had an ati rage 128 in agp slot along with this s3 virge in the pci and it worked fine

but on new pc it came with intel integrated video card, and i plugged in the secondary s3 virge in the pci

when i take out the second adapter and boot up i do not get the error again.

i dont have any other old video cards unfortunately that i can use

I dont believe you can run both a pci and onboard at the same time.

I know if you had AGP, you would have to disable onboard video for it to run. And the other way around is true as well.

Dont know if its the same for PCI though.

my old machine use to have onboard and pci slot and never had an issue, but then again that old machine never had an agp slot wonder if that is causing it

Davy, I don't know if this will fix it, but worth a try I guess.

Go into BIOS and set PCI as Primary graphics instead of AGP

Also, try setting the AGP apature size lower.

onyl thing i saw for video was set primary controller to either auto or onbaord

iwa s set to auto, when i chose onbard it worked, but then the pci card would not work and lost dual montior, had to go back and change to auto

The only time I've seen Explorer.exe errors on an XP machine was when someones kid installed eAnthology junkware, and iMesh junkware, on a machine. I forget if it affected the runtime libraries like your error, but I remember it was explorer.

Tough to uninstall it too.

msvcrt.dll is an essential DLL needed for rendering all graphics in almost all appplications.

The display that you installed, the pci, replaces the msvcrt.dll with a version that is not compatable w/ XP, or the dll is poorly coded so as to break other apps that share it.

You may be able to force the pci display in compatability mode, but it's probably a longshot.

You'd be much better off getting a vid card that supports dual monitors. I have a Matrox Millenium 45o dual head, about 80 bucks. (32 MB memory) Newer ones have more memory.
