I went to a ME machine, got the dos window up and ran:

attrib -r -a -s -h c:\_restore

because I wanted to do:

deltree c:\_restore

but I wasn't allowed. What next?

You need to have attrib.exe on the floppy in order for it to work.

Use a 98 startup disk, it should work because attrib.exe is on it.

ALso, you need deltree.exe on the floppy, you'll have to find that and add it.

Thanks Norm.

np

Any 98 system will have deltree.exe, and attrib.exe in c:\windows\command folder. Not sure about where or even if they are on a ME machine.

Could I use RMDIR?

No, you can't remove a dir that has files/folders in it.

Now that you mention it... all I saw in that folder was 4 files. They looked small (must be pointers) and when I went to delete them, it said they were too big to dump in to the recycle bin... did I want to delete them permanently? I said yes… and then it said I didn’t have permission.

My memory is slow today.

Usually the only way to delete that _restore dir is through Dos, in real mode. Either from a floppy, or command mode (not in windows in a Dos window)

Even with system restore turned off, it won't allow you, usually says it's "in use"

98 startup disk, and add deltree.exe to the root of the floppy. Works every time.

It gets recreated at next boot though, a new one.

Thanks Norm. I planned on booting from the floppy.
