Also having opera and ie open at the same time for the same period of time opera is using 89,592k or ram where ie only uses 24,596k of ram, still i do like opera alot now and i have enough ram not to care.

but for older systems i think ie would offer more benefits.

Really....that's weird. My IE uses 65k and Opera is using 18k. You sure you're looking at IEXPLORER and not EXPLORER?

Anyway, I found a MAJOR bug -- JAVA-based. I have a link to this streaming java webcam down in Long Beach for this weekend's Grand Prix race and Opera just sees a blank screen. And then when you shut down that session, the data still streams until you shut down Opera totally. Looks more like a JAVA problem than anything else, but still a major issue for sure. Works fine for IE.

Test it at www.rfmsports.com and click the link at the top of the page.

How to get Java Web Start to work with Opera.

Platform: All Windows versions

Java Web Start

To get 'Java Web Start' to work with Opera you need:

* Opera 6 or higher. - www.opera.com/download -
* Java/JRE 1.3 (or higher). - java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html -
* 'Java Web Start Update' (File size: 720KB). More info below.

Here is what you need to do:

1. Make sure you have Opera 6.01 (or higher) and Java/JRE 1.3 or 1.4 installed and working correctly.
2. Go to the Java Web Start Download Page and download the 'Update Package' (File size: 720KB)
3. Install the 'Java Web Start' by double clicking on the installation file: ("javaws-1_0_1_02-win-int.exe"). Follow the on screen instructions.
4. Open Opera and go to File > Preferences > File types. Click "New" and add the following info:
* MIME Type: application/x-java-jnlp-file
* File Extension: jnlp
* Action: Open with default application
Click "OK".
5. To test that Java Web Start is working correctly, go to the Java Web Start Demos Page

All the other Java stuff seems to work fine. That webcam does NOT work with Opera. Works great with IE.

by any chance...did you install Opera 7 over top of another Opera installation?

If you did...just uninstall it...delete the Opera folder and then install it again.

Guess I should have mentioned that before....sorry.:(

Here is another tip....some webpages are designed for use with a specific browser....you can tell Opera to identify itself as another browser for compatibility purposes. Just goto file/quick preferences...you can't miss it at the bottom. Pick a different identity and test it.

By default the identity is identified as MSIE 6...change it to Opera. I have noticed that when identified as Opera...everything loads faster. Dunno much about web page development but it does seem to work...which incidently Mozilla has the same feature.

Let me test some stuff and see if I can't find some answers.

Dunno.....Dakota, what OS are you running? When I look up bug reports it categorizes them by OS. I'll try to get a fix as to why rendering is a problem.
