I just received my SB5100.

The modem kicks ass.

It has the fastest lock times I have seen with a cable modem.

It is very quick/responsive. More so than the previous TJ715, SB4200, SBG1000, 3com CMX I used have.

It also has a built in DHCP server that will dynamically assign private IP addresses 192.168.100.11 to 192.168.100.42 to computers on the local network if the cable modem is not connected to the internet.

It is also jet black and pretty damn nice looking.

How are your speeds?

Well, I have Charter Pipeline Gold package.

Speeds are perfectly stable. And like I said, the modem is very responsive/quick. I get 1.7mbps down, and only 128kbps up. Any cable modem will do that.

So you can't really expect faster just cause it is a newer modem, but the SB5100 finishes downloads at maybe 2-3KBps faster than my previous modem, which is pretty insignifcant.

It works perfectly with my Orinoco BG-2000 wireless gateway.

Lucky for you because here in Worcester I have tried to no end to get mine working. Boils down to Charter not supporting the modem here in MA. I don't know what to do. Keep it or send it back for my money. God knows when the locals are gonna get it on the network. My online light blinks to no end.

And the tech that came out to my home told me it was still being tested in St Louis. I don't know when this will get resolved. I can't belive it is this hard to get a modem online. :(

Very interesting....

I live in St. Louis service area.

I just hooked it up, ran through the provisioning system and it works just fine.

Best modem I have used.
