New Cable user with momentary freezes

Just got cable cox.net, and am experiencing micro freezes of 4-6 seconds. happens anytime online, cycling varies from every 30 secs to 5 minutes, offline its ok, getting really agraviating, been through everything that I can think of to up my system for better flow :(

os 98se
800mhz pent3
512 mb ram
geforce2 Ti Video

VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING

1. Under your Configuration tab for your Network settings make sure you have only the needed protocols.

2. Install the vtcp 386 patch and the NDIS Update from here (http://dslnuts.com/patch/index.html).

3. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

4. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=643301#post643301)). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

5. Clear your temporary internet files.

6. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

7. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot (http://beam.to/spybotsd) & Ad Aware 6.0 (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download) to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html) to stay spyware FREE.

8. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in my Help & Tips link (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=643301#post643301).

See if all of that fixes your problem, if not post back and we can go from there. Once you have done all of the above please post another TCP/IP Analyzer Test.

!!! Thank you so much! I am basically computer impaired, and my computer was having the exact same symptoms that 4x4 was having, and after I unchecked the boxes in the Lan settings box, it's fixed! It had been momentarily freezing like this for at least half a year now, and I couldn't ever figure out the problem!
