I am having trouble with my DSL line. It keeps going up and down. I have a 3Com Remote 812 adsl router with 3 computers hooked in. What I would like to know is: what program can I run on one of the computers - or all of them if necessary - to monitor the line. I would like to know when the line is up and when it is down - the periods of time for each and if possible something about line drop or packet drop.

I don't know if there is anything out there that will do all of this, but even part of it would be a help. The telco and I are having a bit of a battle and I need the DSL to be a solid as possible. I am running a VPN to home office and it keeps droping - not good.

Thanks for all your help in advance (if there is any). (smile)

I also have that DSL modem router with two computers wired in and a wireless access point for the notebook. Works just great.

Using your browser you can get to the internal configuration/setup/monitor pages by entering http://192.168.200.254, unless you've changed that. You'll get a userid/password page which the factory defaults are root/!root. Be careful here with making changes. Top page shows whether the line is up or down. The monitor page shows more, try the ADSL section that shows the negotiated speeds and signal strengths.

Thanks for the help, dsl-jds. I found the monitor section of the 3com software, found some great data and printed the screen. The dsl guy got here this morning - I showed him the printout, so he put a tester on the line for about 30 sec. and gave me a new modem. Seems rock solid so far. :)
