Msn!

Two days msn messenger started playing up.Opens by it self and i cant close it, accept for through task manger, i have never had this problem before so i done a fresh install and still the same problem..... is anyone having the same problem? ...usin msn 5.0 on xp Btw. Just seems real odd this happen all of a sudden can anyone shed any light on the matter?

Welcome to Microsoft's world of mind games ;) Here's what you need to do:-

Goto Add/Remove Programs, Click on windows components on the left side, uncheck Messenger and hit apply- This will uninstall Messenger 4.x from your system,,,

Now, uninstall 5.0 and do the following:-

Goto your C:\Program Files folder and open 'Messenger' folder. Click on Tools on the menu options, then folder options- Goto View and click show hidden files- Apply

In the messenger folder you'll see a executbale file with Messenger's Logo- rename that to msmsgs.old --- Apparently this file runs in the background without you knowing about it- could log you in if you had your password saved. Doing that renaming portion will disable the file from running again upon windows startup. After performing all the steps, RESTART

Now, download a fresh copy of MSN 5.0 install and Voila- Should only RUN when you want it to ;)
