hey everyone, this is my first post in the speedguide forums, so dont make fun of my n00b status....
here's the deal. i used to have windows me until i got more RAM to facilitate windows 2000. but after using the tcp optimzer, speeds werent as drastic of a change as when i used it with ME.
before my settings used to be around this level
(i just cut and pasted for demonstration purposes)
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 21958.4 kbps (2744.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 8783.36 kbps (1097.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
but now it's lower than that:
TCP properties for IP = XX.XXX.XX.XXX(wc14.mtnk.rnc.net.cable.rogers.com)
TCP options string = 020405b401010402010303000101080a671f54cd00000000
MTU = 1500
MSS = 1460
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17520
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 17520
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 700.8 kbps (87.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 280.32 kbps (35.04 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 55 hops
Timestamps (RFC1323) = ON
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
now i've tried the various tweaks for win2k, but to no avail.
every time i try different settings, the speed test just gets slower and slower. i've tried cablenut, but can't get even close to the previous speeds. i used ME so much i got used to all the settings, but win2k is too confusing.
my connection is cable, from rogers@home up in ontario, canada
so i beg you, all speedguide forums mods....help!!!

We can help you (not me... I'm not that smart) but I can see a few things that are wrong. Hold on and someone will be along to give you a hand.
I run W2K and love it. You just need a tweak or two.
Welcome to Speed Guide.
*edit*
timestamp should be off
try a RWIN of 64240

i tried the tweaks, but nothin...the results are pretty much identical
i had cablenut before, and even after the add-on it didn't do much....is it not possible to reach higher speeds than
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 700.8 kbps (87.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 280.32 kbps (35.04 KBytes/s) @ 500ms?
i'm tryin to tweak the RWIN with the tcp optimizer, but it doesnt seem to change at all....
i got the settings to 10 half mode as well
does cablenut need specific settings with each computer?
sorry for all the dumb questions, i have no clue with windows 2000

http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/tracert.asp try this take the test and when it's going through u should see some colors you should see green and maybe one yellow
If you get alot of yellow or another color it's on the isp end
Another try turning the modem off and the computer off for about 2 mins turn on modem the computer
With windows 2k cablenut and addon is the way to go do what i said in the post below take a couple of speed test and post the resaults so we could get u straighted out

OK akademiks use the following settings in Cablenut and do my other suggestions, after doing all of them please post another TCP/IP Analyzer Test.
DefaultReceiveWindow = 192512
DefaultSendWindow = 49152
DisableAddressSharing = 1
InitialLargeBufferCount = 100
InitialMediumBufferCount = 240
InitialSmallBufferCount = 320
LargeBufferSize = 81920
MaxFastTransmit = 64000
MediumBufferSize = 15040
PriorityBoost = 0
SmallBufferSize = 1280
TransmitWorker = 32
FastSendDatagramThreshold = 4096
EnableFastRouteLookup = 1
EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1
IgnorePushBitsOnReceive = 0
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = 64240
MaxFreeTcbs = 8000
MaxHashTableSize = 16384
MaxNormLookupMemory = 5000000
SackOpts = 1
SynAttackProtect = 1
Tcp1323Opts = 0
TcpLogLevel = 1
TcpMaxDupAcks = 3
TcpMaxHalfOpen = 100
TcpMaxHalfRetried = 80
TcpRecvSegmentSize = 1460
TcpSendSegmentSize = 1460
TcpTimedWaitDelay = 30
TcpUseRFC1122UrgentPointer = 0
TcpWindowSize = 64240
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 20
MaxConnectionsPerServer = 10
DefaultTTL = 64
DisableUserTOSSetting = 0
TcpMaxDataRetransmissions = 6
DefaultTOSValue = 92
VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING
1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.
2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.
3. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=643301#post643301)). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.
4. Clear your temporary internet files.
5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.
6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot (http://beam.to/spybotsd) & Ad Aware 6.0 (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download) to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html) to stay spyware FREE.
7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in my Help & Tips link (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=643301#post643301).
:D ;) :cool:

Glad to help akademiks but remember those aren't speeds and the TCP/IP Analyzer is NOT a speed test, it is just a tool to check your current TCP/IP settings. Try the OOL FTP test in my help & tips link for your speed.
