Hi Everyone!
Well, I just recently purchased the SMC 7401 Barricade DSL MODEM and I'm running an Ethernet connection throughout the entire Villa... Now, this is how I setup it up:
DSL Line ---> Barricade Modem
Barricade Modem ---> NetGear Switch FS605 ** Uplink Port
NetGear Switch ---> 3 PCS
The entire ethernet network is running @ 100Mbs Full Duplex and the ips on all machines are static- the DHCP on the router is disabled.... Here's where I am having the problem:
When I try to perform a tracert to yahoo.com or any another address, the first hop always takes such a long time and it eventually shows 3 stars then continues on to the Second hop ** MY ISP's DSLAM Gateway.... I've tried using VisualRoute to figure out what the problem is and apparently I have a 100% Packet loss on the first hop ** NO IP or ADDRESS shown - WEIRD
Now, I've contacted SMC with regards to this, but I am still waiting for an answer from them- LEVEL 1 Engineers were involved :) Oooooh- Yeah right....
Can anyone help? The router has never failed, is working perfectly and it actually dropped my pinging times by 10 ms- GO ETHERNET - USB SUCKS :)
One more question- what is NAT / NAPT? what's the difference? and is it ok to have Line Attenuation @ 21.9 dB & SNR Margin @ 22.9 dB
Cherio,
