I think that this is a very bad thing, but there is much worse. Your information is never and I mean never safe when you submit it over the wire to another system, use SSL, SSH, use whatever encryption method you want, it can be and is broken.

If you really want to panic yourself read up about Layer 2 attacks (which in most security pro's opinon is the weakest of the 7) I'm not talking about simple m.i.t.m attacks such as mac flooding or arp spoofing. Read up about spanning tree attacks. ;)
