I used to use reg cleaner apps, but I have not found a one that can fully clean out keys and entries. Therefore all I use now is regedit and search\delete.

My prefered method of cleansing starts with the uninstall of the programs I don't want.
Next I go into the programs dir and delete the folders/files they used.
After that I use a reg cleaner. I use System Mechanic because it finds and deletes the orphaned dll files as well as redundant reg keys.

Once that is complete I use regedit to search and delete anything left behind. In Win98 certain apps require a thorough look through system.ini, win.ini, config.sys and autoexec.bat as well to remove any reference to them. Norton is one of those.
