Unfortunately for you, more bandwith != lower ping. Ping is the latency of round trip time from one point to another. Having more bandwith doesn't necessarily mean your connection is any "faster". People equate bandwith speed because the time it takes to download files or load web pages. Since it recieves more data at a time, things seem to move faster. With gaming the concern is with how long, in milliseconds, it takes for the information to get to us.

There are numerous factors that can result in high pings. It could be that you have to take a lot of hops through the internet to get to your destination. You may be going through congested areas. Your node may be overcrowed etc...

Just out of curiousity what are your pings?

Start with a tracert to a server you play on and post it here. And use the TCP/IP Analyzer at the top of the home page here.

my ping rate varys on quake 3 it goes no higher than 120 but on game like americas army it varys very much.

Tell me if i got a 128k modem would it or would it not make gaming any faster. Or would a 1mb do the job good enough.

128k? That would make it slower. 1 mb would do nicely. Maybe its your video card. Post this in the tweaking forum. They'll help you...

do this from you command prompt:

C:\>tracert aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd > trace.txt

where aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd is the IP address of a server you play on. Open the .txt cut and paste the results here.

There's a lot of different things that affect your ping.

You can cover some of them, the rest is up to your ISP.

First...latest network card drivers....and have your network properties leaned out.

Run all your Windows Updates.

Sometimes having too high a resolution on a brutally fast video card can strain your connection...because on some older games like Quake 1 and Quake 2....each frame demands an update from the server...so more FPS, more updates per second, and having a wide view can bring more data into demand (if you crank your FOV)....and they can flood some connections with too many demands. Try lowering your FPS, perhaps try different video settings, details, etc.

Play with the "rate" setting within your game.

Seeing that a game like Q3 plays OK, and AA doesn't....I'd say your connection is probably OK since Q3 plays OK, a ping of 120 is halfway decent for broadband. In AA, play on different servers. I always do a scan for servers, sort them by ping...and choose servers that I'll log into from the list assorted by lowest ping.

Download and run the latest Ad Aware, you don't need unknown spyware uploading data while you're playing online.

System clean of virus's? Disable anti-virus real time protection when you play? Shut down all other programs in the background while you play?
