Just realized that I can purchase any cable modem to use with my AT&T Broadband service...
Which cable modem should I get? 3com, Toshiba, or Motorola?
Any other suggestions, please?

Unfortunately, I just found out that 3com discontinued their cable modem products...

Any alternatives?

Motorola, I've got the Surfboard SB4100, I max out at 950KB/s steady download with a 2.79MB/S speed burst (if its a good server of course :D). I've had it for about... 9 months now, haven't had a single problem.

Is there a site that does comprehensive reviews of cable modems?

Like how much performance increase is obtainable by switching to a 3com or Toshiba CM over my current RCA? I understand that speed depends upon a lot things especially line conditions, which most of us cannot do anything about it, but what kind of performance increase should we expect by switching to a more highly acclaimed cable modem?

It certainly does not make sense to shell out $99 for a 1% performance increase.

You shouldn't see a performance increase from modem to modem unless your current one if defective. Just make sure you get one that's supported by the ISP.

Thanks, but then what is the point of getting your own modem???

Anyway, I just ordered a 3com cable modem for around $40...
I just have to wait and see...
