I have a Scientific Atlanta webstar DPX100 cable modem.
At the moment I'm using the ethernet connection but was thinking of using the USB (if thats what its for) How would I go about doing this? I have tried and it installed fine but my browser/email couldn't connect to the net. I want the ethernet port on my PC so I can connect my laptop. Got most of the kit, Notebook network card for laptop and crossover cable but no NIC card for PC hense the need for the port already in use.

I CRINGE everytime I walk into a customer's home to install a modem and all they have is USB (or worse, the absolute nightmare of WIN95 and useless USB ports:cry: ). It's just plain unreliable and a pain. It works 80-90% of the time, but the other 10-20% can be a hair puller! If the customer pays for a "full install", I throw in a NIC and all is well.

My 2 cents, buy a router;)

First off it sound like your talking about setting up a proxy server. What OS are you running win 98 or winxp?
You would be better of just getting a router
