Hi,
I don't have DirectWay, I live in the Middle East and down here its only a
one-way satellite internet (download only of up to 1 Mbps) the upload is via
a 128 Kbps ADSL modem. Everything works fine while browsing and streaming.
However, I am getting very low ping rate when I play on-line game like
Warcraft, Starcraft or Earth and Beyond. This is because the games are
uploading and downloading via the DSL and not downloading via satellite
which gives me a very bad ping rate in those games. It should be noted that
to download by satellite, even during normal browsing, I have to connect via
a proxy, that way I upload ADSL and download satellite (In Tools->Internet
Options->and then selecting the connection and ticking the proxy box) If I
don't connect via the proxy I only download via the DSL.
Which brings me to my 2 questions :
1) As I cannot change any settings on any of the games, the up and downloads
are DSL (no proxy settings in the games) I would imagine that the game
should get the connection info from Internet Explorer like other programs.
This is obviously not the case. What can I do to make it download via the
satellite and not the ADSL modem?
2) Why is it that whenever I shutdown my computer then restart the
connection settings (the tick in the Internet Options->my connection for the
proxy "use a proxy server for this connection") is always gone and I have to
do it manually after I restart. The one on the top "use automatic
configuration script" is fine and remains ticked. What can I do about this?
