Hi,
I have three computers hooked up to a wired Linksys router. When my wifes computer is shut down, the indicator lights are still on, on the router. The other two computers dont have this problem. The lights go out.
I called Gateway, they said to call Linksys, Linksys said to call Cox cable. No one could give me an answer. Seems like its just a matter of a setting. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?
Thanks Vic

Light ON is not a problem, unless it causes another functional problem.

1. Try another CAT5 cable.

2. Plug the Computer to another port to make sure it is not the port.

3. Switch off her computer and unplug it from the 110V.

My guess that it has to do with her computer NIC rather then anything else.

That an easy one, some motherboard still have power when they are cut off. To cut them off completley you have to unplug them..One that come to me is a older Tyan board s1590 AT

This is a new Gateway computer with an integrated NIC. Maybe theres an adjustment in the bios?
Thanks Vic

It is the NIC and it doesn't cause any problems if the lights stay on when the machine is off.

If I turn off my other machine the lights will shut off when it powers down but turn right back on again. I use Linksys NIC's but if I install the Realtec it came with they will shut off.

Some NIC's still maintain their link when they are shut down.

Shut the PC down and then unplug it if you definately want the link light to go out. The light stays on for WAKE ON LAN purposes.

Trust me, there is NOTHING wrong. Absolutely NOTHING.

Ok guys , I won't worry about it. But its like leaving the lights on when you're going to bed:). Thanks for your time

it won't hurt anything, it is the design of the mobo/nic as others have stated

It is a new Gateway it is probably equipped with Wake On LAN (WOL).

So the light stays On to tell you: “OK you are going to sleep, but I am here ready to go ON when you need me” (j/k).

I have to pay in order to install this feature in my computers.

On WOL:

Wake On LAN (WOL) - Start a Network Computer Remotely. (http://www.ezlan.net/WOL.html)
