I hope someone here can help. I have a Motorola Surfboard cable modem. The insructions that come with the modem say you can use both USB and ETHERNET out of the modem at the same time, one to each computer. NOW the problem I am having is that one machine has XP home and the other has 98. when I plug the ETHERNET to the XP machine it works fine, when I plug the USB to the 98 machine it works fine, but when I plug them both up at the same time it seems like XP takes the connection and the 98 machine will not connect to the internet. If I unplug the XP machine the 98 machine will start working again. Motorola tech support isn't very helpful. Outside of buying a router does anyone know why this is happening.

Thanks in advance.

What model of the modem are you using? If what you are saying is possible, you will probably need two IP addresses from your ISP, unless the modem has a built in DHCP server.
