I have a 3com 812 router and a Netgear DS104 dual speed hub. There are only three puters on my little net just now but I would like to have them talk to each other at high speed. I have been trying to plug them all into the dual speed hub and plug the hub into the router, but I can't get it to work. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

Does the hub have an uplink port? You have to use that to go out to the router. Also you may have to set up a dhcp server to translate the ip from your isp to several pc's, if the router doesn't provide this function. In that case you'll need another nic. Connect the router (& modem) to 1 nic and the hub to the other and set up ICS on that pc. The OS has to be able to support 2 nics (which 98 doesn't, for example). Be sure and use a software firewall.
do you have the uplink uplink button set on the hub and using a cross over cable from the router to the hub?

sounds like I am about to learn something. Am I to assume that the cable I use in the uplink port of the hub connected to the router is special? Twisted wires or something? This may be my problem.

Thanks for the help everybody. The problem was the uplink cable was in the wrong connector slot --- oooppps. Things are working great now. :)

You will only need a crossover cable if you dont have an uplink port. Some Hubs have two ports others have a switch or a button that can be set to use a normal straight thru cable, or the cross over cable.
Update: I looked your hub up on the net and it has an uplink button. So press it an see if it connects.
2nd update,,, lol,, good to hear it is working
