i have an AMD k6-2 400 mhz processor, 128 mb ram, win98, and a motorola surfboard cable modem connected via ethernet card

the problem that i am having is that when a browser window tries to open in a "new" window, it will just sit there.
if i hit stop and then hit refresh , the page will load

this becomes a problem when using sites like windows update and such

i believe this could be a time out issue in either windows or internet explorer

i am running internet explorer 6sp1

it only started doing this recently and has been working well till now, there is no virus threat present on my computer so that has been ruled out.

i am not interested one bit in tweaking my connection, i just wish to fix this problem, and i am capable of manual registry editing with careful instruction

thanks

Please read here (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85224) so that we can properly help you.:)

I will be glad to help you in any way possible, but you HAVE to tweak your connection in 98 for optimum performance and that could be the problem.:) :D

This problem was suposed to be fixed with the latest release of IE 6.1.

In the MS knowledge base there is the listing of what was fixed by IE 6.1 SP1 and this problem is listed. They have several things to try to cure the error.

The only thing that will cure it is to freshly reinstall your operating system.

No that is not installing over the top of your operating system.

It means the drive has no more Windows on it. And you install Windows from scratch.

The problem is introduced from websites of questionable content. I'm not sure which websites cause this problem to actually occur, but once your IE 6 is broken in this manner, Microsoft has no answer as how to get it running again.

Please see this link provided by Microsoft, It is how they tell you to try to fix the problem, but their final response is "If this doesn't work reinstall your OS.....

New Window is Blank or Nothing Happens When You Click a Link

"If this does not resolve the problem, reinstall Internet Explorer. If you are using the version of Internet Explorer that is included with your operating system, reinstall or repair your operating system."
